Mackerel are beautiful fish to paint- expressive faces with hints of gold, turquoise, blue, purple depending on the light they catch and how fresh they are, and also what colour I choose to emphasise.
I quite often find myself starting with a fresh fish to paint that over the course of a few days changes colour completely!
